Much Ado About... Friends

Today in church, we discussed friendship and friends. We said what a friend was, what the effects of a friendship are, and said what a true friendship should be.

When they asked for examples of people being good friends in our lives, I realized something. I've had a lot of good relationships with people. I've had very few good friendships with people.

I have a lot of people that I have fun with, and have good conversations with, but I would not lay down my life for many of them. The mark of a true friendship is one where you would lay your life down for another. My siblings and one... two... three? other friends I might do that for.

Does that make me the bad friend? Or the one with bad friends?

It's not that I'm not friendly. It's that I don't have that strong connection with many people. Well then I thought, How many friends should we have?

Jonathon had David.
Jesus had his disciples, and John especially.
Moses had?
Joshua had Caleb.
Daniel had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

How many is not shallow but not selfish?
